Total fitness is comprised of:
- Cardiorespiratory endurance
- Muscular endurance
- Muscular strength
- Flexibility
- Body composition.
Cardiorespiratory endurance is the ability of the body's
circulatory and respiratory systems to supply fuel during sustained
physical activity and exertion. It reflects how well your heart and
lungs work together to supply oxygen to exercising muscles.
Muscular endurance is the ability of the muscle to perform a
movement that is repeated a number of times without fatigue, i.e.
lift a 10 lb dumbbell 20 times.
Muscular strength is the muscles ability to exert force at a
given resistance, i.e. the heaviest weight you can lift.
Flexibility is the range of motion around a joint. Good
flexibility demonstrates how limber you are.
Body composition is the comparison of fat in the body to bone
and muscle mass. The scale does not show what percentage of weight
is fat in comparison to lean muscle mass. This is important to
know for overall health and weight management as two people can
weigh the same with one having a higher fat percentage and
unhealthy while the other having a higher lean muscle mass
percentage and healthy.
It is, therefore, important to develop a well balanced approach
to fitness. Developing cardiovascular endurance does not help with
muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance exercises such as
walking, swimming, cycling do not strengthen muscles. Likewise,
exercises that develop muscular strength and endurance are not
effective at developing cardiovascular fitness. Each system must
be undertaken specifically to develop total fitness.
The Aarti Fitness workout is a comprehensive workout which
includes exercises for the development of cardiovascular endurance,
muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility.
